All new Winamp from Nullsoft!

Winamp 5.5 released ppl. It just got better!

It's a special 10th Anniversary Edition and it has got some cool new features.

The main new features include a new revamped interface and a cool skin - the Bento.
The feature I liked the most is that now Winamp supports Album Art natively. Oh yeah! No more plugins for Album Art!

The new version also sports Mp3 Surround support for those having surround audio systems. Other features include support for more audio devices and online media search, auto album art searching, dynamic song recommendations, auto-tagging, shade mode and a new Dashboard feature with which you can add customised dynamic content like feeds, news, random winamp skins and plugins display, etc. etc.

Oh, and dont forget to check out the Winamp Browser feature. Browse all those Music blogs out there.

About Mac, Google and Microsoft

Me n Milf occasionally get together in orkut for discussing tech stuff. We teach, we learn, we argue, we exchange facts and links to prove and disprove... It's fun, you know.

Last time, on Nov 16, I saw a video in his orkut profile. It was about Steve Jobs introducing Macintosh to the world for the first time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0FtgZNOD44
Steve Jobs demos Apple Macintosh, 1984

It was very sweet and moving and we started scrapping.

Color code : Ash, Milf

>Dude... The Steve Jobs video is sooo sweeeett. It almost made me cry man. I dunno why, but it's really touching... I love Apple. I love Mac.

It made me cry too. :D Not "almost", I really cried. :)
And I got the video from Rony's orkut videos.

>I admit it too :)
He's soo proud and happy and... He should be right? And the whole idea, the whole presentation, the idea of making Mac talk... And calling him Father and all...
Touching.

>This made me feel lighter :P

Steve Jobs On Microsoft

And this -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxOp5mBY9IY
Macworld Boston 1997-The Microsoft Deal

Man, they really are like black and white right? :o

>Errr... In the vid he says -
"Mac+Microsoft = 100% of Desktop Computing"...
"Microsoft is the only other player"...
What the heck is he saying? :o
1997 = No linux?

May be he considered all *nix as Mac. :P

Nice videos man...
In the second video, it shows MS buying 150 mil dollars worth of Apple shares.
Check out this link - http://www.swivel.com/data_columns/spreadsheet/1465814. The price of AAPL during 1997 was 12 dollars, market price. I think MS might have bought it at a little bit higher price probably, even though it is non-voting shares. But still, it's a lot of shares.
Look at the price of AAPL now - http://finance.google.com/finance?q=NASDAQ:AAPL . 164 dollars!!! Think of how much Apple has grown in the last 10 years... Almost 14-15 times. If MS still has Apple shares, they are worth billions now... Apple now is HUGE in stock market, with a market valuation more than even IBM!!! Considering how Apple is a much smaller company compared to MS or IBM, and considering how small Apple's revenues are compared to MS or IBM. Probably one of the best business decisions Billy Gates ever made, buying those Apple shares at that time. Man, I wish I could buy some Apple shares then!!

>What's non-voting share? I heard it in the vid too. He said share- everyone booed. Then he said it's non-voting and everyone clapped!!! WTF?

Non-voting share probably means no MS representative on the Apple board of directors. That means even though Bill owns a lot of Apple shares, he can't come into the board room one fine day and say "Make the next Mac a really crappy one".
Apple needed money, so they needed MS's investment. And MS probably wanted to show the world that they had pwned Apple. And of course, as history showed, it was a really great business investment too.

>And yeah dude... I dunno what those numbers mean anyway, but i am smart enough to understand Appy's growth from the graph. The good things started happening in 2000. Then 2004 - 2007... Whoa what a growth man... What happened in 2004-2005? OSX LeoparD? :o

The growth is mainly due to the iPod, I think. That really increased the hype of Apple. Initially, many people had thought Jobs's idea of iPod was stupid. But later, now, some people are amazed that Apple makes computers too!!! :P

>So, MS is losing to Appy. but MS earns through Appy's success too eh? Some irony!

In the second video, Steve says, "We have to let go of this notion that for Apple to win, Microsoft has to lose".
I think it's time for MS to say something like that. They have to let go of the notion that for Microsoft to win, Google has to lose. :)
Like many articles I have read recently, MS is trying too hard to compete with Google in areas Google is extremely good at, and so they are not concentrating enough on areas MS has traditionally been good at. The result is products like Vista. :D

>Yea! MS is losing its focus! Y do they want Everything (TM)!
hehe :D

And not just Google. Even Apple, Sony... They released Zune so that they could compete with Apple. And XBox so that they could compete with Sony. Why would they do that? Of course, the Xbox 360 is doing extremely well compared to PS3, but I think MS is digressing too much from their core business... And their core business is getting really affected.

>Ya, now, MS is losing its hold in its main arena, but doing really well in Gaming - Games as well as Consoles, and then Office Software, then hmmm... what else man? I wont say it's doing great in online business though. I mean MSN sux. Live messenger sux too

Hotmail sucks too. :) Their spam filters are the worst!!! I have stopped using Hotmail, I check it once a week or so because that's the one I have used in many official things like IBM campus placement... I wish I had given Gmail...
Man, I love Google... :) I think Google is going to be god really soon. (Have you read the Google future scenarios article?)

>Is this it?
MS sees the future - and it's Google
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1880962,00.asp

>Hear this dude -
Google signed up about eight new hires per day in 2005--a lot of them from Microsoft, many among the smartest people on the planet at what they do.
Name any long-term technology bet you can think of--genome-tailored drugs, artificial intelligence, the space elevator--and chances are, there's a team in the Googleplex working on an application.!!!

>But dont be too happy about Google.
Here's a foresight I read in one site -
What kind of company will Google become in the coming decades?
Or will it grow into an omnipresent, omnipotent force--not just on Wall Street or the Web, but in society?
Will Google attain monopolistic power, lording over the media, the Internet, and scientific development itself?

I'm scared already. We need MS too man. If MS falls, Google will take over the online world and Apple, the offline! :o

>It's been a long time since "Google" referred solely to a company in Silicon Valley. Its lawyers were battling use of the verb "to google" as early as 2003. But during the past decade, especially among the generation born after the millennium, the word has become interchangeable with "Internet," "computer," and "phone call." As in "Did you see that movie on google?," "Mind if I borrow your google?," and "Give me a google later in the week." This is no mere linguistic sloth. For most daily purposes, Google has become the technology platform, the communications network, and the Internet itself.

It's already started. U just didnt know. It's a verb now!!! Scary.
You scared too? Search F.O.G now... Goo**... errr... I mean search for the acronym F.O.G in your search engine... Shit.. :o

>READ THIS if U think F.O.G is crap.
http://money.cnn.com/magazines/business2/business2_archive/2006/01/01/8368125/index.htm
Go down, further down... Nah, Read it all. Dont stop in between. I'm damn scared man.

Let MS fall. I don't care. And yeah, Google will become the omnipresent omnipotent force - know anything else described like that? :)

>Just read that article I sent ya in the end. And search for F.O.G.
Google is Satan. MS is life.

That's the article I was talking about!!! :)
Last scenario: Google is God! :D

>Yeah! U love that last article? about google's software bot taking over the world by making copies of itself into the chips embedded in every bird, animal and human being born and then the "They-Who-Were-Google are no longer alone. Now we are all Google." Aaaaaaaaa........

Nice!!! :)

>Nice? Search for F.O.G. Instead of Nice, u shud have said Oh my GOd...

I know. Fear Of Google???

>OK I'm changing the topic back to the less intimidating MS-Apple Story.
Check this out and then all the other parts of the series.

Demonoid, Gone For Ever?

For some days, demonoid.com site wasnt operational. And today, the site has been taken down (for ever?). When the site is accessed, a page with this message is displayed -

The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.

Demonoid was a very popular BitTorrent tracker.

Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia -

On September 25, 2007 the Demonoid website, forums and Bittorrent trackers went offline. On September 29, 2007 the Demonoid trackers came back online, although the main site remained offline. On September 30, 2007 at approximately 18:00 GMT the main site came back online. The official explanation as stated on Demonoid was as follows:

"We received a letter from a lawyer representing the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and we need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this. Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience.[6]

Over the next few days the website continued experiencing intermittent downtime until coming back to full functionality on October 2, 2007. Visitors from Canadian-based IPs continue to be redirected to the same downtime message which cited legal threats from the CRIA as the reason for the block. This is in spite of Judge Konrad von Finckenstein of the Federal Court ruling in March 2004 that such peer-to-peer exchanges were legal in Canada.[7] Despite Demonoid's claims, the CRIA has neither confirmed nor denied their involvement.

Currently, as of November 9, 2007, the website displays only this message:

"The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding."[8]

In addition to this, the tracker doesn't operate.

I think this is the fastest report I've eva' done :D

The easiest way to save flash and embedded files with Firefox

Hi there!

I've searched for download tools and addons to download all those cool flash stuff and youtube videos.

Here's what I've learned so far. The tips are based on Firefox.

Best way to download youtube videos - Download helper addon for firefox. Ya, I know there are youtube downloaders and youtube video download sites. But ever tried downloading a flagged video? Ya, those 18+ videos. Try and you wouldnt be able to. So what you should do?
Go here - http://www.downloadhelper.net/install.php. And install the addon. Restart firefox.
Now whenever you visit youtube (or hundreds of other supported sites) and play a vid, the icon of Download helper will animate.
Click the arrow on it to get a list of media files available to download. Select .flv and give the download location.
You are done!

Now about downloading flash files embedded in sites (or in my case, embedded in my scrapbook). Say, you want to download a cool banner or ad or animation. Wait for the page to load completely. Then goto Tools>Page Info. Click the tab Media. From the list, select the file u r looking for (if it's flash, check for file with extension .swf), click Save As... and give the download location.

That was easy, right? :)
Cheers

Update : Sothink SWF Catcher is also good for downloading Youtube videos and other flash stuff. Get it here - http://www.sothink.com/product/swfcatcher/firefox/
